Super Cinema

The article reads: The Super-Cinema. This popular place of entertainment, standing on Wellington Road South, opposite the Central Library, was the first building in Stockport to be erected as a picture house. It was opened by the then Mayor of Stockport (Alderman Arthur Briggs), having been built for the Stockport Public Hall Co. Ltd., the architect being Mr. Valentine, of London, and the builder Mr. Josiah Briggs. It was called at first the Stockport Electric Theatre, and re-named in July, 1911, the Stockport Cinema Theatre. In May, 1920, it was acquired by the Stockport Palace Ltd., and re-named the Super-Cinema. The Super-Cinema has always been noted for the excellent quality of the programmes provided, and has introduced to the town many of the finest productions of the film world.
