View from Penny Lane, Heaton Norris, across the motorway and railway line towards Portwood. The recently landscaped and reclaimed recreation area stretching to the motorway is shown as Raffald or Cook (Cock?) Bridge Gardens on Nicholson's Townend Estate map c1786. After c1835 it was occupied by 2 reservoirs and Spring Bank Vale Print Works, which, in turn, gave way to Tiviot Dale Station.
