Swann Street, Portwood
Swann Street viewed from Great Portwood Street, with the Palmer Mill in the background. To the rear of Melia's grocery shop is a builders yard, this provided one of the many temporary premises for a local bookmaker before legalized betting shops. The 'bookie' had to keep moving to avoid the law and had many 'premises' in the area, all of which were well known by the locals and probably the police!
