Looking west from Portwood, with the steaming electric generator cooling tower at middle left. The railway running from bottom left was the Sheffield - Manchester Central Line which now terminates at the industrial premises at bottom left (Tilcon). Just before the line goes underneath Lancashire Hill was Tiviot Dale Station, demolished before this photo. Merseyway shopping centre is to the right of centre with the railway viaduct at the image top, carrying the London - Manchester railway.
